ps. I may be able to obtain the services of Triloke Singh Holmes on favourable terms for you if you so wish.
i learnt the basics of kirtan from my dad, i.e. sa-re-ga-ma, and initial shabads, which I learnt as a child.
Classic shabads I learnt as a kid from my dad were "Ootat sukheeyaa baithat sukheeyaa," and "Sewak Kee Ardaas Piyaare."
I always did Ardaas "Guru Ji Kirtan Di Samat baksho..." (bless me with the gift of doing kirtan). I suppose I loved messing around and trying out new things on the vaaja, I eventually started finding out how to play on vaaja without anyone teaching me. When I was younger, my dad would double check what I have come up with and telling me whether it is tune or not.
Now I just listen to kirtan (and gradually trying to use shabads sang in Raag) and then from listening to it trying to play it on the vaaja.
So in short the answer is Guru Ji taught me and gave me samat.
My dad gave me the foundations for kirtan. He learnt from Giani Sital Singh Sitara.
hopefully that answers your question :)
