Amazing Keertan!

I came across beautiful keertan in the sweet voice of Bhai Parminder Singh jee from Jallandhar. Bhai Sahib does seva with the Akhand Keertani Jatha. I didn't realise till afterwards that Bhai Parminder Singh jee attended Khalsa Camp 2006! His keeertan at the camp was mind blowing! With Guru Sahib's Kirpaa I came across a few videos of Bhai Sahib doing Keertan. Unfortunately I can't find any audios of Bhai Sahib doing Keertan. If anyone can help with audio files that would be great :)

Manvir Ji nice vids. What is the shabad being sang in the second vid?

Manvir Singh (UK) said...

In the second video, Bhagat Fareed jee Sahib's Salok is read.

It is from Ang 1381 of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee:

Farīḏā kālė maidė kapṛė kālā maidā vės.
Fareed, my clothes are black, and my outfit is black.

Gunhī bẖariā mai firā lok kahai ḏarvės. ||61||
I wander around full of sins, and yet people call me a dervish - a holy man. ||61||

Thanks but what does the salok mean by my clothes are black, and my outfit is black?

Manvir Singh (UK) said...

The black clothes and outfit refers to the appearance of "Dervishes" (Sufi holy men). In today's context it could be that someone may dress in a white dress and white dastaar (turban) or in the context of Hindus dressing in saffron robes.

Explanation by Prof. Sahib Singh jee:

"O Fareed! (Inside me I don't have austere living which a 'Fakeer' (holy man) is supposed to have) My clothes are black, my appearance is black (but for the sake of dirty poison because of 'wandering') I walking around full of sins and yet the world calls me a "Fakeer" (holy man)."

I also enjoyed the kirtan. The first video had a tune that I've heard in one of Daler Mendi's songs.
Although I appreciate raag as the ultimate in Sikh music, I still appreciate other styles. I've heard a few other recordings that sound somewhat like bhangra as well. Whatever moves the spirit.

When I wrote my other comment I hadn't yet watched the last video. They're really gettin down in that last video!

What is this? This is anything but keertan. They are not singing but shouting. No wonder you can not hear the Shabad properly. Certain groups claim to follow the Rehit Maryada but seem to ignore the rule which states that keertan should be done in raag. Yet it seems that certain groups are content with copying tunes from bhangra or bollywood songs. Some may argue that this is simple and easy to understand. Guru Jee tell us what raag to do the Shabad in and what beat the tabla should be in. Not to follow Guru Jee's instructions would seem that we know better than Guru Jee. This recording is an insult to those who are learning the traditional Gurmat Sangeet.

anymore recordings/videos...he is really good! :)

I think the keertan is a wonderful. We should never criticize or call someone bad who is singing the Word of God and expressing devotion to God through singing Gurbani. To criticize such Gursikhs or anyone is not nice at all. Again, I love this keertan sung. Shows lots of passion, love and devotion.

Yes, Bani is written in Raag but then does this mean no one has the right to sing Gurbani if not in raag? This is ridiculous and I am sure the Guru would appreciate anyone singing and falling in love with Shabad Guru.

Before bad mouthing Gursikhs who are simply getting together and singing Gurbani, we should ask... do we Jap Naam? Do we do Keertan? Have we inspired others to do Keertan in Raag? Have we taught others Raag? If so, fantastic, carry on good work.

I would love to have the love with which this man has sung gurbani. shame not others are able to see this but post pointless comments on blogs.

sorry if i sound rude. don't want to ruin the post but I felt I needed to share my views.

Thanks again for posting keertan.

There's a shabad by Guru Nanak Ji. It starts with:

Na bẖījai rāgī nāḏī bėḏ.
He is not won over by music, songs or the Vedas.

and at the end Guru Mahraaj says:

Lėkẖā likīai man kai bẖāė.
The account is written of the loves of the mind.

Nānak bẖījai sācẖai nāė. ||2||
O Nanak, the Lord is won over only by His Name. ||2||

Guru Ramdas Ji says:

Koī gāvai rāgī nāḏī bėḏī baho bẖāṯ kar nahī har har bẖījai rām rājė.
Some sing of the Lord, through musical Ragas and the sound current of the Naad, through the Vedas, and in so many ways. But the Lord, Har, Har, is not pleased by these, O Lord King.

Jinā anṯar kapat vikār hai ṯinā roė kiā kījai.
Those who are filled with fraud and corruption within - what good does it do for them to cry out?

Har karṯā sabẖ kicẖẖ jāṇḏā sir rog hath ḏījai.
The Creator Lord knows everything, although they may try to hide their sins and the causes of their diseases.

Jinā Nānak gurmukẖ hirḏā suḏẖ hai har bẖagaṯ har lījai. ||4||11||18||
O Nanak, those Gurmukhs whose hearts are pure, obtain the Lord, Har, Har, by devotional worship. ||4||11||18||

In this shabd, the first and last lines really touched me.

Vaheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguroo Ji Ke Fateh!

I am also a really big fan of Bhai Parminder Singh. His keertan really touches me everytime I listen to it.

You may already of these files but here is a link to only two files which I found on net http://www.akj.org/skins/one/results.php both are very beautiful.

(ps...no one should comment on how a person touches and connects Gurujee. Every person on this earth is their own unique person. We all talk, and even walk differently to one another so its only logical we may sing keertan differently too hunna?)
