Today marks the martyrdom day of Sikh human rights activist, Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra.
Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra was a bank manager who gave up his job to become a human rights activist and help investigate human rights abuses committed by the Indian State and Police against Sikhs in Punjab.
Bhai Khalra Ji’s work led him to discover and document 25,000 unaccounted dead bodies of Sikhs illegally cremated by the Punjab Police in one cremation ground in Amritsar. His discovery was his death warrant.
Bhai Khalra Ji went to Canada in 1995 to share the tip of the iceberg of human rights violations and genocidal crimes committed against Sikhs of Punjab by the Indian State and Police. On arrival back, he was abducted by the Police whilst washing his car and then tortured to death.
May the courage, determination and fearlessness of Bhai Jaswant Singh Ji Khalra inspire us all to stand up against injustice and oppression, and help bring light of humanity and hope into a world full of darkness of tyranny and corruption.
