actually i don´t know the meaning of KAUR yh i am very ashamed at this moment :$ because lots of ppl say that Kaur means Princess but other ppl say that kaur means Lioness so i am very confues abt it :-( what ist right?Or ist both correct? and why does kaur means that ( if it´s right :) )

In regards to the question about what 'Kaur' means, according to Bhai Kahn Singh (Nabha) who wrote the first Sikh Encyclopaedia (the Mahaan Kosh) 'Kaur' derives from the word 'Kanwar' which means 'Prince'.
ReplyDeleteAlthough to keep things simple we say "Kaur" means "Princess", but from an etymological perspective it actually means "Prince".
What does this imply?
Well, from my "personal" understanding Guru jee picked to call Sikh women "Kaur" ("Prince") to remind them that they will not be the typical timid, weak hearted and passive princesses (commonly portrayed through most cultures) but in fact they will have the courage, glory, grace, bravery and sovereignty of a Prince.
Also it denotes that Guru jee see's his daughters as EQUALS to his sons, just as many mothers who love their children equally also call their daughters "Putt" (actually meaning "Son").

Actually that's Bibi Deep Kaur. But both Bismaadh Kaur and Deep Kaur do wonderful keertan :)
